VIC AGE SHORT-COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011

Congratulations to the following swimmers who competed at the 2011 Victorian Age Short Course Championships last week-end ( Aug 26th to 28th)

Joel Hutchins, Megan Keil, Emily Morrison, Stephanie Poland, Jordan Rowand, James Vandersteen, Shaylee Wedlock and Liam Wilson.

A great effort to qualify and a lot of PB's recorded and a number of top 10 finishes! Well done to all!

Results have been posted on the results page (funny about that!)

Personal Results:
Leading the way no doubt was Emily Morrison who had a staggering 11 swims for 10 PBs and placing within the top 10 in the State in all but one of her events. An 11 second PB in her 200m Backstroke, a 6 1/2 second PB in her 100m Fly and finishing 6th with an awesome swim in her 100m Free for a time of 1.01.67. Emily gained 44 club points for Sale!!
Another great Championships by James Vandersteen, especially considering he has a shoulder injury and will now be taking a considerable break to try and rest and repair it. James had an incredible 12 swims including finals for a total of 7 PBs and 7 top 10 placing’s. James, our most experienced senior swimmer, can always be counted on for a great contest and finals.
Jo Rowand qualified for 2 events for 2 PBs including smashing her 200m Breast time by a massive 9 seconds which saw her place 7th in the State for this event. Another fantastic swim in her 100m breast saw her just outside the finals by less than a second at 12th place with a 3.30 second PB!
Shay Wedlock qualified for 6 events for 5 PBs and celebrated with the girls when she broke 30 seconds for her 50 free with a fantastic time of 29.76.
Steph Poland qualified for 4 events and swam well to maintain her times set just 2 weeks earlier at Countries.
Liam Wilson qualified for 2 events but had to scratch from one due to being in the Football Grand Final with team mate Joel on Sunday. A pretty good reason! The cross training seems to have worked for the boys who have only recently just got back in the pool. Liam swam a huge PB in his 100m fly taking off 3.7 seconds.
Joel Hutchins qualified in 2 events and had 2 PBs including a massive 8.66 second PB in his 100 Fly and swimming a 33.97 in his 50 Free, even after disaster in marshalling (broken goggles) a mad dash back to the stands and then a GREAT swim.
Megan Keil, wearing her State Jacket with pride, qualified for 2 events and swam a fantastic 2 1/2 second PB in her 100m Backstroke.
Our swimmers were asked to send in the highlights of their State experience. Here are the replies received:
From Liam: ...I love the adrenalin you get before you race the best in the State and to have Joel to marshal with me....
From Emily: ..My favourite part was having a bigger team than previous years, and all the support from everyone was so fantastic. I could not have asked for a better weekend...
From Shay: ..Finally did a 29 after being on a 30 for my 50 free for 2 years and how everyone was so happy for me specially Emily and Steph, oh and Des and Paul!..
