Sale Swimming Club held its AGM and Presentation Night for the 2009-2010 Season on the 15th May.

A new Committee was elected with Alison McNair standing down as President. Alison handed the reins over to Chris Colley to lead the Club in the 2010-2011 Season.

The Prestigious Coaches’ Awards went to:
Minnows:         Eliza Jeffs & Joel Hutchins.
Dolphins:          Chloe Haylock & Aaron Castle.
Porpoises:        Tahlia Colley & Kaine Murray
Sharks: Shaylee Wedlock & William Lee.

James Vandersteen ended his very successful Season winning the President’s Award for the Best Performance Outside Gippsland, the Lloyd Buckton Trophy for the Outstanding Male Swimmer for the Gippsland Season, and the Nic Dent Trophy for the Outstanding Male Swimmer at the Gippsland Championships. During the Season James was also invited to train with the Nunawading National Age Squad - a huge reward for his efforts.

William Lee also ended a successful Season with the Andy Barnes Male Junior Encouragement Trophy and the Whelan Family 14 Year Old Encouragement Award. William also received the Award for the Club’s Most Improved Swimmer for the entire Season - the Wilson Family Trophy.

Shaylee Wedlock, for the second year in a row, won the Jannah Taborsky Award for the Most Outstanding Female Swimmer for the Gippsland Season, as well as the Andy Barnes Female Junior Encouragement Award.

Emily Morrison completed her impressive Season with the Leah Dent Trophy for the Most Outstanding Female Swimmer at the Gippsland Championships, as well as the Tom Osborne Memorial Trophy for the Best 10 Year Old Club Member. 

Liam Wilson was awarded the Most Improved 12 years and Under Boy, and Hayley Castle received the Award for the Most Improved 12 years and Under Girl.

The Silby Family Encouragement Trophy for the Gippsland Championships 12 and Under Age Group went to Jordan Rowand.

Donna Rowand, for the second year, was awarded the Bernard Peavey Memorial Trophy for the Outstanding Swimmer over 35 years.

Paul Morrison, after his second Season coaching for Sale, was the successful winner of the Most Inspiring Club Member and received the Christopher Hirth Memorial Trophy.

Megan Raine, Sale Swimming Club Captain, was the winner of the Christopher Hirth Memorial Swim Meet Best Female Swimmer. The male honors went to Ian Melrose for the third successive year. The Oil City Christopher Hirth Memorial Swim Meet will be held this year on the 7th of August.

Tracey Sheilds received a life membership in appreciation and recognition of the contribution and service she has given the club over the many years she has been involved. Wayne Madden also awarded life membership for his significant contribution to the club. Wayne is a former swimmer and captain of the club and has managed the clubs’ website for the past three years.

Sale Swimming Club were triumphant with an outstanding five age champions at the GoVita East Gippsland Water Dragons swim meet held September 13 at Bairnsdale.

The Sale swimmers went straight to the meet from their annual club camp at Coonawarra and, although tired from staying up until the early hours, they scooped the pool in the 11-12 age group champions as well as winning two gold, a silver and two bronze in the relays.

Sophie Fox (girls) and Ian Melrose (boys) won the age champions in the 12 year old age groups, while Miranda Shepherd won the girls 11 years age champion and Josh Tatterson the 11 years boys’. Aaron Castle claimed the boys 10 years age champion. Champion medals were awarded for the points gained in age group races only.

Not to be out-done, club captain James Vandersteen had exceptional success in the Open events, finishing with six silver and one bronze. William Lee and Megan De Wys also picked up a gold each in the Open events.

Sale Swimming Club’s first meet for the season, the Oil City Christopher Hirth Memorial Meet was held on August 2 with more than 150 swimmers competing from Sale, Traralgon, Morwell, Warragul, Bairnsdale, Moe and Kings Mornington clubs.
Sale swimmers finished with 56 medals including 18 gold, 17 silver and 21 bronze.
Among the outstanding swimmers, Megan Raine put in a fantastic performance to win 6 gold, two silver and a bronze.
Hayley Castle dominated the eight and under girls, winning gold in all the 25m events, while best for the boys was Ian Melrose who picked up 7 medals including 2 gold, 3 silver and two bronze and swimming eight personal best times. Campbell Meade also swum personal best times to win gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
Nicholas Bennett won gold in the 15-16 years breastroke and a silver in the 50m butterfly while eight year old, Samuel Tatterson, won a gold and silver in his first meet. Adam Phillips picked up a gold medal in the 17 & over 50m freestyle.
Caroline Lee won gold in the 100m and 200m butterfly as well as 2 bronze for the 100m individual medley and 100m breastroke. Caroline, who swum in a mammoth twelve events, also won the trophy for best swimmer of the meet, the award going to the swimmer with the most points at the end of the meet.

Sale Swimming Club 2008-2009 Awards

Sale Swimming Club’s annual meeting and presentation night for the 2008-2009 Gippsland season was held on May 23rd, 2009.

Ian Melrose, after a stellar season, won the Lloyd Bukton outstanding male swimmer Gippsland season trophy for the 3rd successive year. Ian also won the Nic Dent trophy for the outstanding male swimmer at the Gippsland Championships, the Oil City Christopher Hirth meet memorial best male swimmer trophy for the second successive year and the Trevor Lowe most improved 12 years and under boy.

Shaylee Wedlock took out the Jannah Taborsky Gippsland season outstanding female swimmer and the Cheryl Duffell most improved 12 years and under girl.

Stephanie Poland won the Leah Dent trophy for the Gippsland Championships outstanding female swimmer, the Tom Osborne trophy for best 10 year old club member, the Silby Family encouragement trophy, Gippsland championships 12 years and under and, together with Jordan Rowand was awarded the Andy Barnes girls junior encouragement trophy,.

Caroline Lee won the Whelan Family 14 year old encouragement trophy and the Oil City Christopher Hirth memorial meet trophy for best female swimmer.

Sarah Crowe won the President’s award for the best performance outside Gippsland. Sarah was also awarded a certificate for a new Gippsland record in the girls 100m butterfly. Cameron Goodison also received a cerfificate in acknowledgement of a new Gippsland record for the boys 100m backstroke.

James Vandersteen won the Wilson Family trophy for the most improved swimmer, and William Lee was awarded the Andy Barnes boys junior encouragement trophy.

Donna Rowand won the Bernard Peavey trophy for the over 35’s as well as the Christopher Hirth memorial trophy for the most inspiring club member.
